Verdasco: "We can not make the mistake of believing ourselves favorites in Davis"

Fernando Verdasco, who hopes to become a partner with Feliciano Lopez Spanish team doubles in the Davis Cup final against Argentina in Seville, said that Spain should not make the mistake to be considered a favorite, as happened to Argentina in 2008.

Argentina comes "eager for revenge because they have learned from that final" in which they were considered "lost favorite," said Spanish. "Now is the opposite and we must learn from that mistake" of Argentines that left Spanish victory in Davis Cup, the third time (after the triumphs of 2000 and 2004) and that the title would be added after 2009 to a total of four bowls in a decade. So Verdasco considers to be "an incredible and unmatched end" that is "much more difficult than people think" for the Spanish team, despite playing at home, because Argentina "has a great team too."

The preparation of the two selections will necessarily be different, as the two best Spanish players (Rafael Nadal and David Ferrer) have assured their participation in the Masters Cup in London in late November. "Just take four to six days to change surface and ground training," said Verdasco, which will arrive "with far less preparation than Argentines." The selection will albiceleste players like David Nalbandian and Juan Martin del Potro who have given up the rest of the circuit to recover from their injuries and prepare for the grand final rematch of which took place in Mar del Plata in 2008, could not play Nadal.

Regarding his participation in that final, Verdasco said he did not try to get a good result in Paris to get into the team but because the Bercy Masters is "an important tournament." Although the results in doubles with Lopez lately have accompanied the Spanish said he hoped "to regain confidence and feelings." Verdasco said both are "prepared to the level" if the captain Albert Costa, decided to have them for the match in Seville, as they will be "all week preparing for the game," something that does not occur in double boxes of ATP, where both players are focused on the individual competition, he said.
