Narvaez did not want to fight with Donaire

Omar Narvaez went to New York to avoid risking a little. With over a closed guard, no shock and lack of initiative were the factors that ended the long period of Argentina's Omar Narvaez undefeated. In a contest - carried out in the Madison Square Garden in New York - tilted strongly in favor of Filipino Nonito Donaire, the Filipino was imposed on the cards three scorecards by scores of 120 to 108. From the initial round and demonstrating its greater range and speed, Nonito sought to take advantage of a highly mobile Narvaez that he slipped. As the rounds went by the actions did not change at all, but Donaire - considered the second most important champion of the Philippines - began to despair, as many of his hits were entangled in the South American guard and failed to do the damage expected. It appears Narvaez was looking for a single stroke that catapulted him to a landslide victory and the opportunity was presented. With this defeat, suffered its first defeat Narvaez professional career of 11 years. Nonito defended for the first time the Gallo sashes World Boxing Organization and World Boxing Council who won by beating Mexican Fernando Montiel.
