Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano achieved the triumph of his career

Gonzalo Fernandez Castano won in the Barclays Singapore Open, after three years without a win. The golfer Madrid, 31, succeeded by a victory in the second playoff hole against the Filipino Pagunsan, playoff that had to play each Sunday afternoon and Monday morning Pacific island by storms. There were so many and so intermittent that Sunday, two of them, the contestants were only able to strike.

Back to Monday, the Filipino had a great opportunity to have gotten his first European Tour victory, but missed a putt of 2.5 meters. In the second playoff hole papers were exchanged and the Madrid golfer, one of the best competitors in the national scene, no mistake. Holed a birdie putt for a three-meter event billionaire and settlement of the Pacific. It is the fifth professional victory Gonzalo, which since its debut in 2005 had started an interesting sequence on the European Tour (Holland 2005, Volvo China 2006, Italy 2007 and British Masters 2008), which had been interrupted in the last three seasons.

Overwhelming pressure
The sample of the huge contudencia Gonzalo at decisive moments proves that four of his victories, all but the initiation in the Netherlands, came after a playoff.

The win also comes at a season that seemed lost to the Spaniard, after spending five months in ostracism by a herniated disc. Without excessive expectations began testing in August and has been in the Spanish season where he realized progress. "But with the swing ...", he regretted a few weeks ago. All problems were in his head. He was second in Castellón, twelfth at Valderrama and the biggest win of his career (720,000 euros to the winner) in Singapore reaffirms its back on the crest of the wave.

The win is enter in the top 60 world rankings, he puts in the final in Dubai and, provisionally, he also gets into the European team Ryder Cup Spanish, a golfer from a complete mental toughness, not looking beyond the immediate: the 'Manhattan of the Pacific "took a plane to Japan, where this week contest the Dunlop Phoenix tournament in which Pablo Larrazabal also invited.
