Carlos Checa finished the year at the top of the podium

Carlos Checa finished the year with a bang. Catalan put an end to World Superbikes, which won the title in advance, with a new triumph, the fifteenth, in the final round of the tournament, played at the Portuguese circuit of Portimao.

In a dream season, Carlos Checa managed this season winning 15 of 26 possible, with five doubles included (Phillip Island, Salt Laker City, Misano Adriatico, Silverstone and Magny Cours). It has also received six 'Superpole', 21 podiums and 10 fastest race laps. Without doubt, the best years of his life.

The fifteenth and final victory today was the first of two races in Portimao, ahead of Frenchman Sylvain Guintoli (Ducati), race leader for most of it and just ahead of two laps.

The podium was completed the author of the pole, the Briton Jonathan Rea (Honda).
After a remarkable recovery since the seventeenth position, the Italian Max Biaggi (Aprilia) managed to finish fourth, one place ahead of other Spanish, Joan Lascorz (Kawasaki), who finished the tournament in great shape.

The world runner and fellow Italian Marco Melandri (Yamaha) was picked in the early stages and finished in sixth place.
But Melandri indemnified by far in the second set-last-championship, which held second place with a victory ahead of his teammate, Irish Eugene Laverty (Yamaha), Jonathan Rea and Carlos Checa in fourth. This time Lascorz was eighth.

Santiago Barragan (Kawasaki), substitute Roberto Rolfo on the 'Team Pedercini' was twentieth in the first race, but could not finish the second, while Javier Fores, who played his third race of the season with BMW motorbike Italy finished second and nineteenth left in the first.
