London could use missiles to ensure Games safety

The UK could use to-air missiles during the Olympic Games in London as part of the security deployment, revealed today the Minister of Defence, Philip Hammond.

Speaking at the Parliament, the Defence Minister said he will take "all necessary measures" to maintain security during the Olympics to be held in London in the summer of 2012.

Hammond said that in order to protect London's airspace could be used "air-ground weapons" if the British army's advice.

The revelation of the Minister agrees with the information released today by the newspaper "The Guardian" that ensures that the United States plans to send 1,000 to agents, including 500 members of the FBI, to protect participants and diplomats during the Olympics.

The newspaper said U.S. officials have repeatedly shown its concern for the security during the sporting event, especially by the relaxation of anti-terrorism measures by the United Kingdom.

An Interior Ministry spokesman said today that the British Olympic Committee (IOC) has "full confidence" in their plans and that "the Government is committed to the holding of a safe Games, of which London, United Kingdom and the world to enjoy. "

The British government currently negotiating an agreement with the organization of the Olympics to join 5,000 military police and a private security agency to patrol the Olympic venues, a device that could cost 282 million pounds ($ 329 million euros).
