Muhammad Ali: "The world has lost a great champion"


Former American boxer Muhammad Ali has shown his condolences on Tuesday at the death of ex-boxer and fellow also Joe Frazier as "a great champion," and always remember him with "respect and admiration."

"The world has lost a great champion," he said in a statement the 69 year old ex-boxer, who became three times world champion and heavyweight bouts contested historic Frazier himself.

In addition, Ali wanted to send their support to the family of Joe Frazier. "Joe I will always remember with respect and admiration. My condolences to his family and loved ones," he said.

The American ex-boxer George Foreman also wanted to remember their teammate and friend, the day of his death. "It was a wonderful man and a great friend. The world will not be the same without him," he told a BBC Radio program.

"Joe Frazier was the most incredible fighter. It was not very high, but in boxing all big man afraid of little men. He was a terror, Muhammad Ali and I were great, but when we went into the ring with Joe Frazier, had to have respect, "he said.

Foreman recalled battles against his friend. "I have never wanted to fight him. He drew back, if you hit, he liked. The first thing I remember is that when he lost to me, I was scared that I dropped him six times. Even when stopped to grant boxing world championship was still standing, "he said.

Finally, I recall the great struggle which starred Frazier and Ali. "There will never be a moment in sports as dramatic as when Ali and Frazier fought. It was very big," he said.
