Federer wins in straight sets to advance to the quarterfinals

The Roger Federer today qualified to the quarter-finals after beating Basel Finn Jarkko Nieminen in straight sets 6-1, 4-6 and 6-3.

Former world number one needed 95 minutes to beat Nieminen, who resisted in the second set. However, Federer recovered and had no major problems to win the third.

After the abandonment of Britain's Andy Murray today, second seed, injury, Federer has remained the best-seeded at the bottom of the table of the tournament, played on hard courts.

Individual. First round
Florian Mayer (GER) beats Janko Tipsarevic (SRB 6), and take a 5-1
Robin Haase (SUI) Marco Chiudinelli (SUI) 6-2, 7-6 (7)
Lubot Lukasz (POL ) to Tobias Kamke (ALE), 5-7. 7-5 and 6-2.

Second round.
Roger Federer (SUI, 3) Jarkko Nieminen (FIN) 6-1 4-6 6-3
Marcos Baghdatis (CHP) to Michael Lammer (SUI) 7-6 (2), 6-7 (2 ), 6-3.
